BEHIND THE BRAND

FOUNDER STORY

Founder-led by a mother and daughter duo, ROWIE is shaped by a shared instinct for creativity and independence. Founder & Creative Director, Rowie Moore was raised in the aftermath of the Aquarius Festival within a Northern Rivers alternative living community defined by freedom, artistry, and alternative thinking. A child of artists, she grew up outside convention — where making and reworking were part of everyday life. By fourteen, she had left school with her mother’s support, committing to a self-directed path grounded in creating.

Her early years were shaped by a vibrant creative community — designers, dancers, musicians — where clothing blurred into costume and self-expression became currency. Supporting herself through her craft, Rowie worked primarily with deadstock fabrics, developing an intuitive, independent practice. Motherhood came young, and after returning to the community to raise her daughter Maya, she continued from a small home studio — selling at markets, building a loyal following, and releasing her first official ROWIE collection in 2014.

Maya, raised within this environment, later returned to the brand after gaining experience in Sydney’s fashion industry. Now Head of Brand, she works in close partnership with Rowie, bringing a considered, contemporary perspective. Together, they lead ROWIE with a shared sensibility — instinctive, self-taught, and independent.

BRAND STORY

ROWIE creates wardrobe staples grounded in quality fabrication, precise construction, and considered hand feel, with a focus on silk, lace, and knit. Rooted in understated elegance, each piece is designed as an elevated essential — made to move seamlessly through everyday life with ease, versatility, and enduring wear.

The designs are fun, bright and inherently free-spirited, with a focus on colour and print, inspired by ROWIE’s Byron Bay roots and shaped by the brand’s international appeal.

The brand came into focus with the release of its first collection in 2014, evolving from Rowie Moore’s early made-to-order and small-batch practice into a more defined and directional offering. Based in Byron Bay, it remains closely connected to its local community, operating with a small, considered team, with design and development grounded in a close, hands-on process.

ROWIE collections centre on a refined mix of natural and premium fibres, including silk, lace, and knitwear in merino, cashmere, and alpaca, alongside cotton, denim, and linen. Fabrics are selected for their hand feel and finish — silks that fall with fluidity, lace that introduces light texture, and knits that offer softness and warmth without bulk. Cotton and denim bring structure and durability, while linen adds a relaxed, natural texture.

There is a focus on clarity in fabrication across all materials — considered weight, clean finishes, and how each piece sits and moves on the body. The result is tactile and cohesive, with an emphasis on feel, form, and everyday wearability.

ROWIE The Label’s ethical journey is woven into its design philosophy — producing to demand, each piece is created with purpose, reducing overproduction while embracing a slower, more considered rhythm. Designed for trans-seasonality, pieces are not bound to a single moment but move fluidly across seasons — worn, layered, and lived in over time. This approach is elevated through zero-waste fabric techniques that minimise excess without compromising form.

Crafted in small runs across China and Indonesia, collections are shaped through close relationships with makers, ensuring a thoughtful, hands-on production process.

Materiality is approached with equal care. ROWIE prioritises consciously sourced fabrics, including organic cottons, LWG-certified leathers, and other low-impact textiles chosen for their reduced environmental footprint and longevity. This commitment extends beyond materials into an ongoing process of refinement — an evolving dialogue between design and responsibility. The result is a wardrobe designed to be worn often and kept longer — pieces that outlast the season they were created for.
